Melissa-Sue Methven is a registered dental hygienist, keynote speaker, and breathwork facilitator passionate about transforming the way dental professionals approach mental health and wellness. With over 16 years of experience in dentistry, she has witnessed firsthand the unique pressures and silent struggles faced within the profession. Her mission was profoundly shaped after the loss of her husband, a dentist, to suicide—an experience that propelled her to bring awareness, hope, and practical tools for emotional resilience to the dental community. Melissa-Sue is the author of The Truth Behind the Smiles, a book that blends personal storytelling with insights into mental health, healing, and the importance of addressing the hidden challenges behind professional success. In her talks, she not only shares her story but also guides audiences through a 10-minute breathwork practice—along with other simple nervous system reset tools—that can be used in the dental office or at home. As she teaches, “breath is your nervous system’s best friend,” and learning how to use it can be life-changing for both providers and patients.
